Grape palinka and varietal spirits

The vineyards of the Ier Valley supply the grapes for the most aromatic Zekulhyda palinka: Muscat Ottonel, with its scent of vine blossom, linden and honey; Fetească Neagră — Romania's first spirit from this variety, a Quintessence gold medallist; blended grape palinka; and pomace palinka with notes of raisin and walnut.

Grape spirits are served at 18–20 °C in a tulip glass, as an aperitif or alongside cheese and fruit desserts. Every bottle is 350 ml and ships by courier anywhere in Romania.

Frequently asked questions

What is palinka, and how is it different from țuică?
Palinka is a spirit distilled exclusively from fermented fruit, with no added sugar, alcohol or flavouring, and at least 40% ABV. The name is protected in Transylvania and western Romania. Țuică is traditionally made from plums and is usually lower in strength. Zekulhyda palinka is distilled from fruit picked within 30 km of Săcueni, in the Ier Valley.
How should palinka be served?
At 18–20 °C, in a tulip-shaped glass that concentrates the aromas. Do not keep it in the freezer: the cold hides the fruit. Let it rest in the glass for a minute before the first sip, then enjoy it in small sips.
Do the spirits contain sugar, flavouring or colouring?
No. Every Zekulhyda palinka is 100% distilled fruit, with no added sugar, flavouring, colouring or alcohol. The colour of the Barrique spirits comes solely from ageing in wooden casks.
How do I store the bottle, and how long does it keep?
Upright, in a cool place, away from direct light. Palinka does not spoil: a sealed bottle keeps for years, and once opened it holds its aromas for months if the stopper is tight.
